Scenes from Versailles

Within a small town not far from Paris is one of the most famous palaces of all. This is the Palace of Versailles. It's famous as the Palace of Louis XIV (the Sun King), the beautiful gardens and also for the Treaty of Versailles which ended World War I.

It was a grey and misty day when we arrived in June, 2001. But, even then you could see the fantastic beauty of the gardens. It is well worth the trip from Paris. And, in about half a day, you can pretty much cover the palace inside and the grounds on the outside.

Since we went on a tour from Paris, we didn't get to go into the village at all. I guess that would be my one disappointment, because the village itself looked very enticing, too.
