On the 23rd of April, the 2001 edition of the Rotterdam Marathon was run. The weather was very good for running. It was clear with the temperature in the 40s (F).
The Rotterdam Marathon is laid out very well for spectators. You are within a half-mile of being able to see the runners in 3 stages of the race: start, 14 miles, and finish. There was a good size crowd enjoying the running as well as the food supplied by the vendors on Coolsingle.
The flat course lends itself to very good times. This year Josephat Kiprono won the men's race, equaling the course record of 2:06:50 by Ethiopian Belayneh Densamo set in 1988. In the women's race, winner Susan Chepkemei of Kenya finished in 2:25:45.
